Do you have a homemade gift that you treasure? Homemade gifts are so inexpensive – but full of personality and love; they are thoughtful, even without a huge price tag!
Here are 10 reasons why you should give homemade gifts to your family and friends:
- They are a great option for birthdays, holidays, or just a simple way of saying thank you.
- I love the smile on the recipient’s face when I give a gift! Homemade gifts can bring simple joy to your friends and family – a gift of love, exclusively made for them.
- A gift you have made yourself makes the recipient feel special. They know you really took the time and effort to make their gift. It’s a gift that they will treasure.
- You can personalise gifts for your loved ones – a favourite scent, colour, flavour, jam, marmalade, chocolate etc.
- When you make your own gift you control the quality by choosing the best supplies, ingredients and avoid unnecessary additives and chemicals.
- What do you buy someone who has everything? Well, they haven’t tried your homemade soap! You can satisfy even the most difficult person in your life!
- If you buy your ingredients in bulk it works out less expensive to make, saving you money to spend on a coffee or a meal with friends.
- Creating a homemade gift can be therapeutic, it’s time to distress from work, or from health and other problems. Finishing a creative project can give you such a sense of accomplishment – yes, you made that, you can be creative and proud!
- Your friends are impressed with your creative talents and they might even start making requests for their favourites. They won’t ever be disappointed with your thoughtful homemade gifts.
- It can begin a tradition, making gift giving less commercial and more personal.
I’ve been busy trying new hobbies recently and making gifts for friends and family.
The homemade jam was yummy:
There were even some strawberries left over for vanilla ice cream and banana dessert. Well, I was working hard!
My friends enjoyed my homemade chocolates, especially the popping candy!
This weekend I’ve been making cinnamon sugar for friends – they requested it!
I really enjoyed making my own soaps last night.
And then today I made marmalade for the first time.
So, give your gift extra special meaning by making it yourself.
We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

I agree that handmade gifts are extra special. It’s the thought and time that’s put into the gift that makes it so treasured. Being able to personalize it for the intended recipient is really nice.

I love making my own gifts, but because I’m not terribly crafty, I find that sometimes it’s hard to make a gift for some people, especially men. I do try to give some homemade gifts to my husband eveyr now and again as an attempt at a romantic gesture.
