I LOVE strawberries! They are great in smoothies, desserts, added to yoghurt and granola for a nutritious breakfast and they taste perfect on their own, or if you’re feeling naughty – dipped in chocolate :) Strawberries are also a great source of vitamin C and potassium, and they also contain iron and folate.
I’ve heard that home grown strawberries are full of flavour and freshness and therefore it was a no brainer – I knew I just had to grow my own.
I also use a lot of tomatoes in my cooking and in my sandwiches, so I thought I might as well grow them too.
A visit to the garden centre was needed. These are just some of the flowers, veg, herbs and fruit I bought recently:
Here are photos of some of my planting, we’ve had some lovely sunny days this week :)
I’m going to enjoy the health and flavour benefits of growing my own strawberries and tomatoes and there are many other benefits too. They are organic, free from genetic modification and chemical pesticides; also they will be fresher, more nutritious and more delicious. I will have a free unlimited supply (hopefully!) and also watching them grow will fill me with pride in my little achievement and connect me with nature.
I’m really looking forward to the delight of picking my own strawberries for breakfast (and tomatoes for lunch) this summer.
Keep smiling :)

I would love to grow my own fruit and veg and I have daydrwams about doing it with my girls as they grow up but considering I can kill a cactus (meant to be the easiest plant ever to keep alive) I won’t hold out much hope.
