Fruit kebabs

Do you want a healthy dessert that tastes great and looks pretty? Well, you have to try fruit kebabs! They are easy to make and fun to eat. They are fab served on their own or with yoghurt (I highly recommend Greek yoghurt with honey and a little cinnamon) or cream. You could also drizzle some dark chocolate on top.

How do you make them? Take wooden skewers and thread the fruit onto each. So simple!

Fruit you can use: raspberries, hulled strawberries, satsuma segments, cubes of peeled mangoes, peeled pineapples chunks, peeled kiwi fruit chunks, green grapes, red grapes, blueberries, sliced banana, apple slices, peach slices, melon cubes etc. (whatever is in season)

You can use whatever combination you like. Feel free to get creative!

The easiest way to keep your fruits from browning is to place them in a bowl with Sprite (or any lemon/lime soda combo) or pineapple juice so that they all get wet and then skewer them.

I recommend, if you are serving them at a party, that the bottom fruit on each skewer be something sturdy like a grape – helping to prevent the entire stack of fruit from slowly sliding its way down. You can arrange the fruit skewers decoratively on a plate or serving platter. You could try using a watermelon as a basket in which to stand the skewers up to be enjoyed. It makes a really pretty centrepiece. Or pre-poke some holes in an apple and then place your delicious fruit kebabs into the holes (you could break the bottom of some of the skewers a little so that they’re at differing heights).

I used a variety of summer fruits as shown in the photos: hulled strawberries, blueberries, sliced bananas, melon cubes and grapes. An edible rainbow.

Fruit kebabs are creative, cute and colourful. Also, they are a great addition to a buffet table amongst the usual figure unfriendly dips and spreads. How refreshingly different – the perfect party snack.

Fruit kebabs are a really fun way to serve fresh fruit.
Enjoy!
