Maintaining a positive attitude is crucial when you want to achieve anything or just to improve the quality of your life. Today I have some exciting news to share with you. One of my blog posts ’20 reasons why it’s great to be single’ was published in The Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/claire-collopy/20-reasons-why-its-great-_b_8751730.html
If someone is feeling a little down about their single status as Christmas approaches these 20 reasons may help to remind them that there are lots of positives too :)
Living with Fibromyalgia has many challenges – the pain and fatigue can be unbearable at times and then there are all the other symptoms and the lack of understanding from others. It’s so easy to slip into our own bubble of pain and not see any positives in our lives. The reality is there is no cure at present but we have to hope that there will be in the future. If we continue to raise awareness about Fibromyalgia then maybe the government and the health department will recognise this illness for what it is, a debilitating life-changing illness, and give more funding to help find a cure.
Eight months ago I allowed positivity to be a dominant force in my life. I began blogging about living with Fibromyalgia and this blog and my regular readers help me to focus beyond the pain. You don’t need to do much to make a happy life, it’s within yourself, in your way of thinking, in having a positive attitude.
These sayings help to keep me positive:
- Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.
- You never know how strong you really are until being strong is the only choice you have.
- Give up worrying about what others think of you. What they think isn’t important. What is important is how you feel about yourself.
- No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying.
- Ask yourself whether each of your relationships drags you down or lifts you up. Surrounding yourself with positive, loving people is half the battle of living a happy, successful life.
- Spend more time with those who make you smile and less time with those who you feel pressured to impress.
- We are not alone. No matter how bizarre or embarrassed or pathetic we feel about our own situation, there will be others out there experiencing the same emotions. When you hear yourself say “I am all alone,” it is your mind trying to sell you a lie so you will continue to feel sorry for yourself.
- If you want to feel rich, just count all the great things you have that money can’t buy.
- Making one person smile can change the world. Maybe not the whole world, but their world. Start small. Start now.
Being published in The Huffington Post has brought a silly grin to my face today :) But what has brought a smile to your face?
Keep smiling!

I am definitely more pessimist than optimist, but I have made a conscious decision a few years ago that I am the one that controls my happiness, and also that I do not control the happiness of others. Staying positive in all types of situations is definitely important! Congrats on the Huff Post article!

The best thing when living with this illness is to be positive and get rid of the negatives in your life. It feels so good to know there are others out there like myself. That is indeed the best thing this blog brings to us and that is a big part of staying positive or that is how I am feeling right now. Thanks so much for sharing.

I’m quite an optimist and my husband is a bit more pessimistic. It’s actually helpful that we can balance one another. I firmly believe we should always try to find the positive in every situation and leave the bad stuff behind.
