The Sittingwell Cushion – Firm Support For Your Back

Living with Fibromyalgia is challenging, the unrelenting pain can cause fatigue, depression and anxiety.  Both upper and lower back pain causes us intense discomfort, it can range from a dull, constant ache to a sudden, sharp pain and it is often impossible to sit or stand for long periods of time.

My lounge is the place I like to unwind at the end of a busy teaching day, a place where I can relax and read or watch movies. Back pain is often caused by poor posture, when you are sitting on your sofa your hips should be positioned above your knees. You should be able to sit into the back of your sofa and place your feet on the ground. I really like my brown leather sofa but it doesn’t offer the support I need for my back and it was aggravating my back pain by putting unnecessary pressure on my spine whilst I was relaxing. My sofa is too deep so I was sitting in a slouched c-shaped position, which was putting pressure on the discs, muscles and ligaments at the base of my spine. I needed to prop myself up with extra cushions behind me, bringing me forwards in the seat. However, those cushions would eventually flatten and not offer the support I needed.the-sittingwell-cushion-firm-support-for-your-back

The Sittingwell Cushion

When I was offered the opportunity to try the Sittingwell Cushion I was thrilled, I needed something to reduce my back pain. The cushion gives the support required to maintain correct lumbar lordosis. You can choose from polyester foam or duck feather filling. The people at Sittingwell honestly say on their website that the polyester fibre padding will, over time, compress and become more difficult to restore back to its original shape and that the feather padded cushion will last significantly longer, you just need to plump it up at the sides and it will be as good as new.  I chose the Deluxe Sittingwell Feather Back Support Cushion.

The Deluxe Sittingwell Feather Back Support Cushion is fantastic as it firmly supports my back, where my spine needs it most, as I relax on my sofa. I’ve noticed a definite reduction in my lower back pain as the cushion gives me the perfect balance between firmness and softness, comfort and support. It has turned my sofa into a more ergonomically correct seat and I’m finding that I can sit for longer than I used to be able to, the cats love that we have more snuggle time. If you too have a tendency to slouch, this cushion will help you sit up straight and avoid the pain and stress that comes with bad posture.

The Sittingwell Cushion fits in a standard 45cm square cushion cover (not included) so it looks just like a normal sofa cushion, but the integrated back support ensures my back and spine are supported. I love that it is handmade here in the UK and it comes in an ethically sourced reusable canvas bag which is great if you want to take the cushion with you on holiday.
